Dr. Darryl Inaba Joins Addictions Recovery Center!!

Dr. Inaba Medford, OR (6/4/09)  -- World-renowned doctor and substance abuse expert Darryl S. Inaba, PharmD, CADC III, has joined the staff of Addictions Recovery Center, Inc. (ARC). Dr. Inaba brings over 40 years of expertise in the field of chemical dependency treatment.

“We are incredibly fortunate to have Dr. Inaba on our staff,” says Christine Mason, executive director of ARC.  “He is recognized internationally as an authority in the field and brings both clinical and scientific research experience with him.”

As one of the founders of the Haight Ashbury Free Clinic in San Francisco in 1967, Dr. Inaba began doing groundbreaking work with substance abuse treatment at the peak of the Summer of Love.   Since then he has served as the CEO and president of the Clinic, worked as a research scientist, clinical pharmacist, and associate professor.  He coauthors the college text and reference book Uppers, Downers, All Arounders.

“I am delighted to be associated with ARC,” says Dr. Inaba, Director of Clinical & Behavioral Health Services.  “ARC has a phenomenal reputation.  I am very impressed with the staff and the programs offered to the clients and I would like to help Chris Mason achieve her vision for the organization.”

From the beginning of his career, Dr. Inaba has been fascinated with psychoactive drugs and their effect on the brain.  His work in drug and alcohol recovery led him to a deeper understanding of this chronic condition and to pioneer treatment techniques.

“Addiction is a biological condition that robs people of the ability to control the use of drugs and alcohol,” says Dr. Inaba.  “The brain is very resilient.  It has the ability to form its own networks and build back its chemistry once use has stopped.”

Dr. Inaba relocated to the Rogue Valley in 2006 and was the clinical manager of Genesis Recovery and Behavioral Health Services until they closed earlier this year.   He has authored hundreds of technical articles and has received more than 70 commendations, awards, and honors in recognition of his work. He has partnered with CNS Productions, Inc., a leader in drug education, for the last 35 years and is a professor at the University of California, San Francisco; University of Utah, and College of San Mateo.

“My own experiences have convinced me that accurate non-judgmental and comprehensive knowledge about psychoactive drugs and their effects is the most effective method of preventing substance abuse problems.”

Darryl S. Inaba, PharmD, CADAC III
